The idea for Options for Health was borne out of my 33-year commitment to alternative health. My interest began when Adele Davis was the vitamin guru, health food stores were few and far between, and the assistance of an acupuncturist in Vancouver was acquired in the back streets of Chinatown. Personal health issues and those of my family and friends have motivated me to obtain a layperson's knowledge of a wide variety of alternative health options. There is little I haven't tried - and tried with consistent commitment. I do not profess to be an expert in each modality but I do profess to have a thorough, experiential foundation and a broad knowledge base.
My career to date has focused on the human services field. I developed and implemented employment-training programmes, taught classes in communication and conflict resolution, and worked as a special student assistant in elementary and high schools. Parent/teen mediation, crisis intervention with street youth, foster parenting, and child protection social work further rounded out my career.
Options for Health provides me with a wonderful opportunity to blend my interest in alternative health with the wealth of knowledge, skills, and experience I have gained over the last 20 years. In fact, it allows me to do what I do best-network, advocate, facilitate communication, and generate enthusiasm.
